Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn
The historic Big Bear landmark Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn was originally built by the 1st damkeeper of the Big Bear Lake Dam in 1920. This magnificently restored unique log private home and carriage house is now a well known B & B with rustic elegance, a quite atmosphere and personal attention from the innkeepers. Two historic buildings with guest rooms sitting on 2.5 private heavily treed acres backing to the national forest, yet walking distance to the Village of Big Bear Lake. The moment you arrive you will realize the Knickerbocker is a very special place.
The interior of the Knickerbocker Mansion is warm, cozy and historic. While the feeling is much more elegant than when the Knickerbocker family lived in the house, it still has the original rustic charm and ambiance. The 1st floor has a reception entrance, living room with original native rock fireplace and 1/2 log stairway. The ceiling and much of the walls are covered with the original wide wood paneling. The dining room also has an original native rock fireplace and original cedar wood paneling. A 2nd dining room converted from part of the 1st floor original exterior verandah brings the outside inside. It is a perfect place to enjoy a wonderful gourmet breakfast, when the weather does not permit dining on the outside back patio.
•The Mansion• There are four large, corner rooms located on the second floor of the main house. Each is beautifully decorated with antiques, quality linens, and an abundance of the original natural cedar paneling.
•Bistro at the Mansion• Now open for Saturday Night Dinner. A prix fixe menu created by Chef Thomas that is a gourmet food lovers delight. See the dinning page at www.knickerbockermansion.com/dining.html.
•The Carriage House• Located a short walk up the hill from the main house, it has 6 additional guest rooms. It was originally the barn build in 1917 and converted to guest rooms in the mid 80s. Four small cozy rooms, each with exterior entrances are located on the 2nd floor. A large luxury suite with private deck and fully handicap accessible room are on the 1st floor. The same quality linens, towels and amenities as the main house are available in the carriage house. Guests also have 24 hour access to the main house public areas.
All rooms have private phone, TV/VCR, and an adjoining private bath complete with tub and shower. Access to the second floor verandah (running the length of the main house) allows guests to relax while enjoying "tree top" views of the lake and surrounding forest.
